Storage Tips

|
• Plan your storage space. Place items that you may need to access often in the front and allow for walkways.
• CAUTION: Do not store anything COMBUSTIBLE (i.e. paint thinner, gasoline, solvents, etc.) Our regulations prohibit the storage of these items. • Use uniform size boxes or plastic storage containers for easy stacking. Be sure your boxes are strong enough to hold 25-35 lbs. Don’t put too much in a box. • List contents of boxes on 3X5 cards and number boxes to match card numbers. Keep cards in a safe, convenient place for unpacking. • Wrap dishes/glasses/pictures/mirrors in paper and pack in sturdy boxes. Stack these boxes on top marked “FRAGILE.” • Drawers in furniture are storage for items that fit. Wrap them in table cloths, towels, etc. to prevent breakage. |
• Larger appliances make excellent "Packing cases" for blankets, towels, table cloths, and clothes.
• Remove table legs to save space. • Store sofas/love-seats on end to save space. Place a protective cover over and under furniture. Wrap Cushions in plastic and place on top. • Plastic covers protect stuffed furniture from dust. • Store mattresses flat on top of level surfaces. Cover in plastic, stand on their side. Prop them up so they stand straight to avoid losing shape. • DO NOT store perishable items; flour, potatoes, candy, etc. or other food products. • Wrap stringed instruments in one or two blankets to insulate and protect. Also loosen the strings. |
